Children in our communities face significant risks, including exploitation, neglect, and harmful cultural practices. Nawiri strengthens child protection systems to ensure that every child grows up in a safe and nurturing environment.
Strengthening Child Protection Systems
Nawiri has established Community-Based Child Protection Mechanisms (CBCPMs), equipping local volunteers with knowledge and skills to protect children.Training sessions have been conducted for community health volunteers, caregivers, and local leaders to raise awareness about children’s rights,positive parenting, and early intervention in cases of abuse.
Advocacy and Policy Influence
Nawiri works with government stakeholders, including the Children’s Department, to advocate for stronger policies that safeguard children. This includes participation in county steering groups to contextualize and domesticate child protection laws.
Community Engagement & Education
We have facilitated child-led forums, where over 3000 children engaged in discussions about their rights and well-being. Through initiatives like the Day of the African Child, Nawiri amplifies children’s voices, bringing issues such as FGM, child labor, and early marriage to national attention.
Building Capacity of Child Protection Champions
Nawiri has trained2500 child protection champions (1375 Female, 1125 Male) who actively raise awareness and provide early support for children at risk.
The Impact
Thousands of children have benefitted from strengthened child protection policies. Child abuse cases are being reported and addressed more efficiently due to community awareness.
More parents and caregivers are adopting positive parenting approaches, reducing harsh discipline.
