Building Resilient Communities in the Face of Climate Change
With worsening droughts affecting food security, Nawiri has pioneered innovative and sustainable farming solutions to empower families.
Smart Farming & Hydroponics
Nawiri introduced climate-adaptive hydroponic farming to help families grow food with 80% less water and no need for power or large land space. The pilot project in Meru trained 72 caregivers (52 female, 20 male), with expansion to Isiolo training 50 more parents.
Emergency Food Assistance
In the last financial year, we have supported 2,769 children in 32 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers with fortified porridge and food distributions to fight malnutrition. An additional 400 malnourished pregnant and lactating mothers received vital nutritional support.
Cash Transfer Programs
To provide economic relief, Nawiri facilitates direct cash transfers to 2,490 families (1,461 men, 1,029 women) annually, allowing them to purchase food and essential supplies. Additional funding from donors extends this support to 2,000 caregivers, ensuring families could withstand economic shocks.
Livestock Support for Pastoralists
Nawiri provides bales of hay to struggling pastoralists to help revive weak and emaciated livestock, preventing further economic loss.
The Impact
Families adopting smart farming techniques are increasing their food security and household incomes. Malnourished children and mothers receive life-saving nutrition support. Vulnerable families have the financial support needed to sustain themselves during crises.
